5 starsTempest Maguire is a half-mermaid who desperately shuns the sea (except for surfing) as her seventeenth birthday approaches, when she will have to make a decision to either stay on land or seek her kin in the ocean. The final chapter discusses British regional variations, particularly relating to Wales and Glastonbury. I believe that these were not needed because most people reading this book have already read P&P. Stephen Joseph brilliantly combines personal anecdote with cutting edge psychology to explain why all of us have the capacity to triumph over adversity. I read this to my son over several nights, and while he did ask about the servants and "were they like slaves", this was more an additional facet, something he could enjoy and learn from, rather than something which inhibited his enjoyment. As a great love of our son, it's always wonderful to find another possible Christmas gift.
